About the Author
Harvey J. White, MD
Physician, author, and founder of Vessel Health — writing on conscious living, drawn from a lifetime of practice and inquiry.
A life in practice
Dr. Harvey J. White has dedicated himself to direct patient care, clinical research, and leadership activities designed to improve both individual lives and our healthcare delivery system. His career began at the bedside and has never really left it — the questions that show up in his writing are the ones he first met across an exam table.
Building on decades in interventional cardiology — including the acute treatment of heart attack and stroke patients — Dr. White is the founder and executive director of Vessel Health, a medical enterprise pioneering prevention in the achievement of cardiovascular well-being.
Leadership and service
Former creator and medical director of the Heart Hospital of New Mexico, he has served as president of the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association, governor of the American College of Cardiology, president of the American Heart Association, and leader of the Southwest Heart Foundation.
Across these roles, one thread has held: an insistence that good medicine begins with attention — to the patient in front of you, to the system around you, and to your own thinking.
On writing
On Life: Thoughts on Life's Challenges is the first book in what Dr. White thinks of as a slow, ongoing conversation with the reader. A companion journal followed. A second book is in the making — arriving when it's ready, not before.
